Personal Injury - Auto

Auto Accident AttorneyWhen you are in an auto accident, your life is disrupted, especially if you are severely injured. You need help to solve problems, such as:

  1. Your injuries and who will pay for your medical treatment.
  2. Lost income for your time off work. Will you lose your job? How will your family pay bills?
  3. Scarring and disfigurement; if your health insurance does not cover "cosmetic surgery" we can help obtain funds for those costs.
  4. Insurance issues and disputes often arise, especially if the auto accident occurred while working; we can help you to make sure the available insurance is used most appropriately to help you.
  5. Property damage and rental car; often we can help you to get a rental car with little to no out-of-pocket expenses, either through your own auto policy, or the other driver’s; if the other driver’s insurance won’t pay the rental costs up front, we can inform you how we can seek reimbursement for the rental costs at the conclusion of the case. To have your car repaired, you often will have the option of having your own insurance or the other driver’s insurance pay for the repairs; you may also prefer the option of paying for the repairs yourself, in rare circumstances. There are pros and cons to each approach. We can help assess your situation and needs to help you make the best decision.
  6. The other driver may have no insurance or not enough insurance coverage. We can help find all available insurance proceeds and the possibility of other available assets to help your predicament in the best way possible.

The following are 10 Helpful Suggestions

  1. Have great insurance (not "full coverage") to guarantee $500,000.00 to $1,000,000.00 or more in coverage. For more information on insurance coverage, click here.
  2. Call 911 for help.
  3. Tell the police and EMT (emergency medical technicians) of all of your pains and complaints from the accident/collision, so they can best help you. This will be documented to help avoid problems with the insurance companies.
  4. If injured, take an ambulance to the hospital, and follow-up for care with your own doctor as needed.
  5. Obtain any and all medical treatment necessary for your injuries, and make sure to tell the doctors and healthcare practitioners of all of your pains and complaints during each office visit.
  6. Do NOT give a recorded statement to an insurance company, unless your attorney advises you to do so, which is rare. The other party’s insurance will only try to use your statements against you, and not to help you.
  7. Call your attorney and follow your attorney’s advice. The insurance companies will investigate immediately. You and your attorney need to begin preserving evidence right away.
  8. Obtain photos of the scene, vehicles, damages and injuries, in accordance with your attorney’s advice.
  9. Keep the Attorney-Client Relationship confidential. There is almost never a reason why you should mention "lawyer" or "attorney" to the police, EMT’s, parties, witnesses, doctors or healthcare practitioners, unless a doctor’s office specifically asks if you have an attorney in which case you should follow your attorney’s advice. Your doctor may need this information for insurance issues. Your relationship with your lawyer is confidential.
  10. Follow the advice and recommendations of your doctors and your attorneys and work on getting as healthy as you can as soon as possible.
